If you bought an iPhone from AT&T or T-Mobile and you want replace the SIM card with a pre-paid card of another cellular provider in favour of better rates than follow than please read this article.
There is a free hack, with an open-source software you can unlock your iPhone in about one hour.

- You iPhone needs to be activated before proceeding with the hack. If you haven't already done it and you don't want do it with AT&T or T-Mobile, download a small program named iNdependence for a fake activation.

Prepare Installation
- First you'll need to deactivate the AT&T-only features, such as Voicemail.
- Disable the iTunes helper application
- Be sure iTunes is not running
- Open OS X's Activity Monitor (Utilities folder of the Applications folder).
- Select iTunes Helper, and then click on the Quit.

Install AppTapp
- Download and install AppTapp
- You will be is asked for the firmware version you're running. Select it and click on Continue (If you've just updated, you probably have Firmware 1.0.2).
- You will get a s creen like "Congratulations! You have successfully installed AppTapp Installer onto your iPhone."
- Now you'll find a new application on the iPhone's home screen called Installer.
GSM Unlock
Make sure your iPhone is connected to a WiFi network.- Launch the Installer program
- Install-in order-Community Sources, BSD Subsystem and OpenSSH
- Download and install Unlock.app and Cyberduck.
- Set Auto-Lock to Never (iPhone's General settings).
- Go to Settings: Wi-Fi
- Click on the blue arrow next to the network that you're connected too
- Write down the IP address, you'll need it for later.
- Open Cyberduck and click on Open Connection (top left of window).
- In the connection window, type in the IP address you've just noted.
- Select SFTP (SSH Secure File Transfer), and Port 22.
- Enter username root, and password dottie.
- Navigate to the root directory /.
- Navigate to /usr/libexec and drag the file named lockdownd.
- You will be asked if you want to overwrite the file. Click on Continue.
- In Cyberduck, drag the Unlock file from the desktop into the /Applications folder (top of the main window).
- Once done, turn off your iPhone and remove the SIM card.
- Turn the iPhone on again and choose Unlock on your iPhone.
- When everything went fine, there will be a white screen "All files found. Ready to go. Press Start."
- Press start.
Wait about 20 minutes for all files to be installed. - When you see "Completed" then it's finished.
- Insert a new SIM card. Congratulations, you're ready with unlocking your iPhone!
