PC to PC VoIP Calling

VoIP telephony Just like VoIP, using a computer to call another computer through the Internet has been available to users for some time now. But with today's modern technology, you can make calls to standard telephones for free. Or, for a very low price, depending on the software you are using.

Just like any other voip product, PC to PC calling (VoIP telephony) has its advantages and disadvantages. Perhaps the greatest disadvantage of internet voice over is the fact that the person you are calling must be online and he must have the same Internet calling software as you do! It is a known fact that quality costs. The same principle applies here. Depending on the speed of the connection to the Internet, the quality of the audio signal (the sound quality of the call), may vary. Thus, if you or the people you are calling have/has a slow connection or the network is very busy, it may be almost impossible to have a conversation with VoIP telephony.

Still, if you are planning on using your PC for VoIP telephony, you should know that all it requires is a simple setup of your internet voice over phone software. If you are trying to call a standard telephone line, your computer requires special software and that's it! Start dialing. In this case, your internet voice over phone connection would be the only factor that will influence the quality. The PSTN use high speed connections at their end.

Generally, a cable or DSL connection is recommended for your internet voice over phone connection. Of course, even these connections can have their ups and downs. Basically, it all depends on the ISP. Initially most of the VoIP telephony services only offer calls to the US but they claim to have plans to offer calls outside the US. If you live outside the US you can still use the service as long as your calls are to the US.

You have a computer and want to be online then everyone complains that your phone line is busy! Don't worry, there are alternatives to getting a second telephone line, and some are very reasonable. A couple of alternatives that are pricey are a cable modem or a DSL line. Cable modems work off your cable TV, so there are no phone lines involved. A DSL line is a great alternative also. You can use this high speed Internet connection, plus still use your phone line at the same time. The price compares to having a second phone line plus a Internet service provider.
VoIP telephony has a great future.
