What is VoIP?
VoIP technology is changing the world. When people are able to communicate with one other from very long distances without having to worry about the
cost of that communication, things are already more different than they have ever been before. Voice over IP (VoIP) brings a new level of closeness to friends and families, even over that every individual should research and quickly convert over to for lower phone bills and for flexibility in communication.
I think that it is very important to note that voice over IP telephony does not have to cost any money at all. Neither does it have to be brought to you by one of the traditional phone companies. Voice over IP has been available through several of the Instant Messenger Internet programs for several years without any fanfare. Granted, it took a while of the sound quality to be acceptable and comparable with a traditional phone call. Still, this is where it all started. Voice over IP is still available through the various Instant Messenger programs. Now, if most of the people that you know have a broadband Internet connection and have an account with the same instant messenger program as you, you probably only spend a small amount of money on your phone calls already.
Jump on the VoIP bandwagon now
Keep your eye open for developments in voice over IP because they are happening very quickly. There are some Instant Messenger programs that offer a combination of voice over IP through Instant Messenger with a connection also to the traditional telephone network. That means that you can make and receive phone calls for free through Instant messenger and then simply pay a few cents per minute for voice over IP calls that connect to the traditional phone network. There are a lot of varieties. If you spend the majority of your time on the computer either for work or for entertainment, you might want to seriously consider a computer-based voice over IP.
VoIP is hot but the prices are low
The various ways that voice over IP are all quite similar it really is a matter of how you prefer to have this service delivered to you. If price is a major factor in your decision making, you will not lose anything to go for cheaper option. The service across the board is quite similar. Having said that, check the independent or consumer ratings on any company that you are considering working with. They may offer great services and a great price but perhaps are not committed to quality. This could lead to them placing too many phone calls on one route leading to bad reception. This is important. Also, do not sign up with any company that makes you sign a long term agreement with them. The competition that VoIP brings is designed to always give you options and freedom to move about with your telephony.
