Video Phone IRIS 3000 in Germany
Hello,
I've got my video phone one week ago and I'm really exited.
The IRIS 3000 is only in test phase at this time. For this reason I cannot use the video features because my friends with an IRIS 3000 video phone lives in the USA.
OK they can call me, but I cannot call them during the test phase.
Are there other happy IRIS 3000 video phone owners I can talk with?
You only can buy the ACN video phone by an independent ACN representative.
ACN IRIS 3000 Videophone & The State of the Videophone
I've come across the new ACN IRIS 3000 video phone a few times recently and thought I'd write about them. I'm a big fan of videophones even if there doesn't seem to be any true adoption of industry standards that lets one videophone talk/video to another. Not to mention I reported first how Vonage's OEM'ed videophone, VisiFone, from Viseon hit the scrap heap due to Viseon's implosion.
I was hoping to see Vonage's VisiFone interoperate with Packet8's Videophone, which I reviewed back in 2004. Back then Packet8 was the last broadband videophone service provider left standing, but it now appears that ACN has recently jumped onboard the videophone wagon. I hope they do well. Although videophone deployment has been slow to take off, I think offering subsidized, low-cost, or even free videophones to VoIP customers is one way of differentiating yourself from your competitors, especially if you are a single play provider like Vonage or Packet8 going up against Comcast, Time Warner, AT&T, etc. that offer Triple Play packages.UCSniff2.0 launches
Greg Galitzine has the goods on a new IP video sniffer/recording product called UCSniff2.0.
According to Greg, "Until now, the information has only been posted on security boards and community sites, and on the SourceForge site at http://ucsniff.sourceforge.net/". And of course, as you probably surmised, since it's on SourceForge, it's "free" under a GPL license.
According to their website:
Polycom VVX 1500 Media Phone Game Changer?
Today, Polycom has launched the Polycom VVX 1500 touch-screen business media phone, a new VoIP phone that combines IP telephony with business-class video and the ability to integrate with business applications. Recently, Verizon make a big splash with their consumer-class Verizon Hub, a multimedia phone that combines VoIP, Internet access, color screen, video streaming, and more. One could easily make the case that the Polycom VVX 1500 is the "business-class" version of the consumer-oriented Verizon Hub phone.
Grandstream GXV3005 Video Phone

Grandstream just announced the GXV3005 IP video phone is coming this month. The GXV3005 features an additional FXO port and is part of the GXV3000 IP video product line series.
Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Rumors
I've heard from various sources about Office Communications Server 2007 R2 coming soon. I'm a member of the Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 MVP team, so I'm privy to information that I cannot divulge at this moment due to NDA requirements. In fact, I hadn't planned on blogging this at all had I not come across a few posts online talking about OCS 2007 R2. Other sources outside the Microsoft MVP community were also asking me if I knew anything about R2.
VonagePro for Business
It appears that Vonage is looking for a Director of Product Management for VonagePro, a service I had never heard of until today. I just happened to notice the VonagePro job listing on Monster.com. Hmm... - "Requires bachelor's degree in computer science or electrical engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience." I've got those credentials! Just don't tell my boss I was surfing Monster.com.![]()
Packet8 Drops International Calling Phone Rates
Calls to China dropped from 3¢ per minute to now 1¢ per minute? Wow! That's a 67% drop! All I can say is it is absolutely amazing how far prices have dropped. The race to zero/free calling continues...
Packet8 sent me an email announcing several price drops. They also stated, "And now all calls to India are only 5.9¢ per minute — permanently!" While that's a great rate, not sure they want to pain themselves in a corner. Suppose someone offers 4¢ per minute to India - is Packet8 going to stick to their guns and stay at 5.9¢ per minute? Ok, I'm being nit-picky with their words. I'm sure they meant it will never go up, but potentially could go down.
